Technologies Developed and Start-ups

MIT collaborated with the following organizations to create technologies that have been commercialized successfully.

  • XL Tech Group USA- To develop system engineering related to biodiesel catalytic chemistries. The “OneStep Process” developed converts all types of fatty acid conjugates, namely, triglycerides, phospholipids, glycolipids, and free fatty acids, into biodiesel. This stage of this project, lab-scale POC work, pilot plant, design, manufacturing, and supply of 1.2 MGPA plant, was completed in Aurangabad. This plant was sent to the USA for commissioning at Kissimmee, Florida State.
  • IO-Mega, Inc. USA & Nurture Earth R&D Pvt Ltd – worked for developing technology for “Algae to Omega-3 Fatty Acid”. This is a high-impact project that turns an agriculture waste stream into a very high-value product, Omega-3, a US $1 Bn market seeing 10 to 16% annual growth and supply-side constraints. IO-Mega USA Inc. has licensed this technology to a Chinese Biotechnology company.
  • Cryogenic – Lab to Shop Floor concept was applied by providing improved wear resistance to D 2 steel punch for Saigan Industries, Waluj, Aurangabad. An add on cryogenic treatment was performed on D2 steel punch. Ten times improvement in the life of punch was obtained. This was an accomplishment, and several industries got interested in this work leading to the development of a device and process for treatment. Now, this is being commercialized with the tools industry and steel rolling industry.
  • Cryogenic processing of precision engineering components: MIT R&D has successfully developed a cryogenic processing method to enhance the dimensional stability, wear-resistance, and improvement in the surface quality of the alloy steels and other engineering materials like Al alloys, PTFE, etc. This technology is now being transferred to M/S Customised Technologies, Electronic city, Bengaluru, for designing and developing the processor and the processing of the precision alloy steel components of the machines.
