Samir Shaikh is an Architect and Urban Designer with twenty years of professional experience internationally. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from University of Mumbai, and a Master in Urban Design from University of Colorado, USA. He is also an IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Accredited Professional. Samir is also an active member of IUDI (Institute of Urban Designers India).

The Expert explained the various type of urban design projects done by his firm and the details about various approaches that can be taken when handling an urban design project. He explained the role of academics in practice and the relationship which should be established between academic research and practical application. During the question answer session, he helped students of fifth year to understand the urban designing field in detail and guided the master students in their studio work. The students of second year M. Arch (Urban Design) also discussed regarding their thesis and the techniques and tools which could be implemented.

The guidance was aimed at equipping the students with the skills and knowledge necessary to create functional, sustainable, and visually appealing urban environments. The expert’s talk emphasized the need for thoughtful and purposeful design in shaping the future of our cities and the crucial role that urban design plays in creating livable and sustainable cities. He encouraged the students to approach their designs with a clear understanding of the intended purpose, and to consider factors such as accessibility, walkability, sustainability, and community needs. The students were challenged to think critically about the design process, and to consider the impact of their work on the wider community. Zonal Convention of Students of Architecture form 23rd Oct. to 25th Oct.2015. It was a 3 day event wherein approximately 750 students of 21 Architecture colleges across Maharashtra Participated. It marked the presence of eminent Architects from all over India. The inauguration function was held in the presence of Ar. Dean D’Cruz, Principal Architect and Creative Head, Mozaic Architects, Goa – as Chief Guest and Prof. Munish Sharma, Director General MIT, Group of Institutes, A’bad. – Guest of Honor.
The various activities that took place include,
The National Association of Students of Architecture (NASA India) is one of the largest Architectural Student Organizations in the world with student participants from more than two hundred colleges all over the India and countries around the world.
The main objective of NASA India is to create a platform for architecture students to learn and interact, engage them directly and indirectly through both online and offline platforms. NASA India conducts events, conventions, seminars, workshops, design competitions & trophies and many other activities. NASA Activities at MIT Students of our institute have been actively participating in NASA Activities right from its inception year. NASA and related activities have always proved to be an opportunity to enhance the overall personality of the students. The students are always over enthusiastic for participation. Attended ZONASA NASA Convention : Sinhgad College of Architecture under the Sinhgad Technical Educational Society (STES), celebrated it’s 25th anniversary by hosting the 60th Zonal NASA Convention 2017, at Sinhgad Institutes, Vadgaon, Pune. The fest was scheduled from November 2 to 5 and hosted students from more than 35 colleges across Maharashtra.
A poster making competition was organised for the students of the department with the theme “Achievement of independent India in the field of Architecture”. The students were told to participate in the group of two. Each group would make one poster. It should be A3 Size poster. The winner group was felicitated on World Architecture Day.
Cultural were organized, where in all the participating colleges performed cultural acts on the theme – CELEBRATION OF ART.
Teacher’s day program was celebrated through online mode on Microsoft Teams. Students made a video for appreciating and thanking the teachers for their selfless contribution in the field of education. Portrait sketches made by the students were gifted to the teachers as a thank you gesture.
World Architecture Day was celebrated by Department of Architecture in online mode . An Expert Talk was conducted by Alumni of the Department of Architecture Ar. Tina Dharamsey. The event witnessed around 90 participants, respected teachers, and alumni from the department.
Sketching workshop was organised for the first year B.Arcg and B.Voc students. By Aar. Nikhil Authankar, alumni of the department, and practicing architect. He made students acquinted with the sketching techniques.
A cricket match was organized at the Cricket ground of the institute for the students of Department of Architecture. The match was between Third year versus Second- and Fourth-year students.
An Indoor play area was redesigned by the students of department of Architecture. The area has all sort of indoor games. The students painted the walls of the space to make the space look more attractive and pleasing. The space was inaugurated by the hands of Hon. Dr. V.M Pandharipande on 15th August 2022.
