MIT, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Integrating Universal Human Values into Holistic Education

Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, established in 1983 and accredited with a NAAC ‘A’ grade, is an autonomous institution renowned for its holistic education. MIT offers a range of UG, PG, and PhD programs, including BTech, MTech, BVoc, BCA, MCA, BBA, and MBA, serving over 5000 students on campus.

The institute has made notable advances in Universal Human Values (UHV) education and has been identified as a potential nodal centre for UHV. Committed to its role, MIT aims to extend its UHV outreach to at least 10 districts under the vision of Prof. Munish Sharma, Director General. The UHV Cell, established in April 2024, has hosted significant programs, including sessions for UHV I & II and a Management Development Program. Since 2020, UHV content through Student Induction Programs has profoundly impacted students and faculty, with additional initiatives such as a Student Development Program and a three-day awareness program for non-teaching staff.

MIT also benefits from a national-level resource person contributing to UHV sessions, and some faculty members are extending UHV education as visiting faculty in organizations where awareness is still emerging. UHV II has been introduced as a credit course in the third semester, and a Minor degree in UHV has been incorporated into the curriculum. Upcoming initiatives include FDPs on UHV I & II, family workshops, and leadership development programs.

Aligned with its vision, MIT is participating as an organizing partner in the International Conference on Human Values in Higher Education 2024, further demonstrating its commitment to integrating UHV into its academic framework and broadening its community impact.
