Yes, you should. You can meet the Head of the Department to better understand the course details, facilities, department strengths, future opportunities, etc. We have excellent qualified, experienced and cooperative as well as friendly staff who can guide you suitably. 7. What is the actual procedure for securing admission at MIT?

Admissions to various Engineering and Technology courses are carried out by two main modes, namely, through central counseling and direct at the institute level. However, the eligibility criteria in both modes remain the same.

The central counseling is conducted by a competent authority like the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE)/State CET cell, Mumbai, in Maharashtra State. Central counseling is conducted for 80% of the total seats in each branch (65% seats for candidates from the home state and the remaining 15% seats for candidates from all over India, including home state candidates). A notification is issued by the competent authority every year announcing its procedure for central counseling. Candidates interested in seeking admission under the institute level quota (20% seats in each branch) can follow the steps as below:

The admissions to UG courses in Engineering and Technology in the State of Maharashtra before 2016-17 were affected based on the “composite score” computed, considering 50% weightage of PCM marks obtained at HSC examination and 50 % weightage of JEE/CET score obtained.

The cut-off is available for the last year can give enough idea about the trends. The merit number so allotted might help understand the trend compared to the merit numbers of previous years, though it may not be so accurate.

10. Does the tuition fee remain the same till the completion of the course?

Normally Yes. However, the guidelines will be followed as prescribed by the concerned authorities from time to time.

11. Is it mandatory to pay the tuition fee in one installment only every year?

Yes. However, it can be paid in two equal installments with special permission and subject to norms and conditions laid down by the management.

12. Am I eligible for any kind of scholarship or concession in the fee?

Yes. You are entitled for scholarship/fee concession depending upon the category/caste of the candidates and subject to the condition that you should have been admitted through CAP rounds only. (CAP= Centralized Admission Process). Details are given in the table below:

13. Am I supposed to pay first and then the amount paid is returned?

In case of students admitted through CAP under the categories like SC, NT, VJ, SBC, OBC, and TFWS; the students are not required to make the payment of the amount, which is exempted, say for example SC and ST claimant will pay the only security deposit and other fees. Whereas NT, VJ, SBC, and TFWS category students will pay the development fees in addition to the security deposit and the other fees at the time of admission. Students admitted under the OBC category and EBC (Economically Backward Category) claimants will have to pay half of the tuition fees, full development fees & security deposit, and the other fees at the time of admission.

14. Are there any schemes for the students of the minority community?

Yes. The minority communities identified are Muslim, Christian, Sikh, and Jain. Students admitted through CAP and who belong to any of the above minority communities and fulfilling the norms can apply for either the state or national minority scholarship schemes. However, these students will not get concession in fees at the time of admission and will have to make full payment of fees.

15. What are the formalities that are required to be carried out by students admitted in various categories (as exhibited in point 13) to seek concession/exemption in tuition as applicable?

Yes, it is mandatory for all such students who have taken admission in categories like SC, ST, NT, VJ, SBC, OBC, and EBC to complete the formalities as below:

i. Register your candidature on the respective website as the case may be, furnishing all details within the given time frame
ii. Submit the online Form
iii. Take the printout of the completed & submitted application form (online)
iv. Submit the printout of the application form (from the respective website) along with the required documents (Original or Photocopy as the case may be).
v. Confirm the submission of all relevant documents.

16. What happens if I fail to comply as above (maybe due to non-availability of certain documents)?

Of course, an undertaking will be required to be submitted by the student duly signed by the student & parents in all the above cases. If for any reason, a student fails to comply with the submission of application with required documents, such students will have to pay the full fees as applicable to the open category student.

Yes, your admission is confirmed only when you pay the fees as applicable and submit all the required documents in the original.

No, at any given point in time, you are eligible to apply for any ONE of the scholarship schemes, as discussed above. If found violating this, serious action can be initiated against the candidate/student.

Yes, several banks offer education loans for payment of the tuition fees as well as hostel charges. Please contact the admission office for details.

20. Do you have facility or remitting the tuition fee through net-banking?

Yes, MIT boasts of a very rich library. The library is located in a separate building with more than 1 lakh books, 1000 journals, online books, and references. 33. What is the pattern of academics and holidays in an academic year?

The academic year typically has two terms, sessions or semesters. The academic year begins by June/July and ends by April every year. Term or semester examinations are conducted at the end of each semester. Usually, the first term concludes by October/November, followed by examinations (both theory and practical); and the second term starts by mid-January.

There are two major academic breaks during an academic year, each after every semester. The break post the odd semesters are shorter, whereas break post the even semesters are a little longer, say a month or so.
