4th Indo – Japan Preconference Workshop on

“High Speed Rail and Geotechnical Challenges”

at MIT Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on 18th December 2024

The fourth Indo – Japan preconference Workshop on High-Speed Rail and Geotechnical Challenges organized jointly by the two of Asia’s oldest geotechnical societies, Japanese Geotechnical Society (JGS) and Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) in association with Indian Geotechnical society Aurangabad chapter, Indore chapter and Department of civil Engineering MIT, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on 18th December 2024.

The workshop began with a formal inauguration with Prof. Ashok Kumar Chawla (Advisor Japan) MEA as the chief guest, Dr. Karbhari V. Kale, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, Maharashtra, was the guest of Honour, Dr. Anil Joseph (President, IGS), Dr. A.P. Singh (Honorary Secy. IGS), Prof. Munish Sharma (Director General, MIT Chh. Sambhajinagar), Dr. Nilesh G. Patil (Director, MIT Chh. Sambhajinagar), Prof. Neelima Satyam (Convener of the workshop), Prof. S.K. Prasad (Co-convener of the workshop) and Dr. Manish S. Dixit Organising secretary of the workshop were on the dias.

The conference workshop included 10 Keynote Lectures The keynote speakers includes Dr. Susumu Yasuda Tokyo Denki university, Dr. Reiko Abe, Project Management Specialist, Dr. Ikuo Towhata, Kanto Gakuin University, Prof. Fumio Tatsuoka Tokyo University of science, Dr. Susumu Nakajima Railway Technical Research Institute, all from Japan. Dr. J.T. Shahu, IIT Delhi, Dr. R.P. Singh NHSRCL, Mumbai, Er. M. Kumaran L and T, Geostructure Pvt. Ltd. Chennai, Prof. Amit Prashant IIT, Gandhinagar and Dr. Mohan and the last session was devoted for panel discussion.

The workshop was sponsored by Tech Fab. India. The financial assistance from them is highly appreciated. The auditorium and infrastructure for the workshop was excellent. The workshop attracted many participants (165) from academia, research organizations, industry and government organizations. The workshop was appreciated by all the delegates who participated in it especially for time and financial management and technical content.
