About the Department of Rubber Technology
Rubber is important commercial material. Rubber has been used across the world from time immemorial. From humble beginnings of use as an eraser, today it has wide range applications, like in tyre, power transmission belt, conveyer belt, wires & cables etc. Today, rubber in both the forms natural and synthetic are used globally. Tripura is the 2nd largest producer of natural rubber in India after Kerala. India is the 4th largest producer and 2nd largest consumer of natural rubber in the world. So, Tripura University has launched Rubber Technology program from the academic session 2015-16 to provide skilled manpower to the Rubber Industries. Currently, this department is offering Bachelor in Vocational (B.Voc) Rubber Technology programme. The department is also planning to launch Masters in Vocational Rubber Technology (M.Voc) programme. The department is also actively involved in providing training on latex harvesting to the rubber growers of Tripura. To provide industrial training and job placement for the students, several MoU’s have been signed with different organizations like RCPSDC, Rubber Board, Kottayam, AIRIA, RIGPA Edu Solution etc. The department has excellent placement records.

About Indian Plastics Institute (IPI)
Indian Plastics Institute is a technical professional Body registered in April 1985 under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and subsequently under the Public Trust Act 1950. IPI was formally inaugurated on 6th May 1985 after taking over the Plastic and Rubber Institute, London (PRI) Indian Section (Plastics) as of 30th April 1985, which was established in June 1963 as an Overseas Section of Plastic Institute, London.
Today, IPI is a strong Professional Body of Industrialists, Plastic Technologists, Academicians, Economists and Students, spread over 14 Chapters across India and 2 Overseas Association partnerships with Sri Lanka and Nepal.
IPI offers part time Diploma of Indian Plastics Institute (DIPI) course, on-site industrial training programmes as well as short term industrial training programmes. IPI chapters create student chapters at educational institutes where polymers and related technologies are part of the curriculum to help students gain advanced knowledge and current information about technology and applications of plastics. National seminars, technical lectures, workshops etc. are organized through the chapters. IPI conducts Endowment and Memorial Lectures every year at different chapter locations with the donations received from some of the enlightened and benevolent plastics industrialists to update and disseminate the knowledge on innovations and technological developments among the plastics fraternity and society at large. IPI publishes bi-monthly “IPI Journal” disseminating information on technological developments taking place around the world and other news on plastics.
